How Did Prairie Keepsake Start?
Before our son, little W, was born I knew that I wanted to preserve the memory of his birth in some way. I saved his umbilical cord and a lock of his hair and feverishly searched online on how to preserve them into jewellery.
After long hours of research trying to decode the secrets of resin jewellery artists and learn the best way to preserve breastmilk.... I finally was able to create my own jewellery piece and immediately wanted to share this craft with others!
We have since welcomed a second son, little S, and we have created over 500+ keepsakes for families worldwide.
Who is the resin artist behind Prairie Keepsake?
That would be me - Stephanie! I am a first time mama, critical care nurse and entrepeneur trying her best to run this company and bring high quality heirloom keepsake jewellery to you!
I moved from Winnipeg to Brandon to complete my training as a nurse and graduated with my Bacclaureate of Nursing in 2017. I met the love of my life here, settled down and started my own family in 2021. Although I do love the medical field - after having my son I needed an artistic outlet. Creating resin jewellery helped me balance my work and home life and keep me sane. Soon Prairie Keepsake Jewellery was born!
How are Keepsakes Preserved?
All keepsakes must be dried before they are mixed with clear or tinted resin and hardened to form a necklace pendent or ring bezel.
Breastmilk is preserved into a powder and bacteria is removed before it is put into the jewellery to prevent breakdown or spoilage.
Keepsakes such as cremation ashes, locks of hair, dried placenta and dried umbilical cord can be put directly into the resin.
